La societá dell'immagine
Some time ago I attended a symposium, and one of the speakers was Canadian. These, began his presentation, he pulls out after two minutes of movie-making made by the computer simulations of all stained neurons that discharge action potentials, and here he is zooming here and there, showing a cellular carrier shaped like a spinning wheel (speed varies depending on the drugs administered to the neuron!), or a receptor with funny holes in the ground pulls the neurotransmitter. The Discovery Channel stuff.
At that moment I had to give reason to my friend Lap (s) aciano and his hatred of scientific publications.
In fact I am sure that if I was with my eyes closed I would have understood a lot more of that seminar. The animations captured much attention!
Our conscience does not have much space. The things that we can pay attention in a conscious way are few. In the case of the seminar was to me - like many in the audience - can not follow the rapporteur with all this "noise" sensory. Such techniques are profitable if the speech was made slowly and informative, and the aim is to interest and motivate the audience. The Discovery Channel, in fact. Or a lesson in high school. But it's not a seminar for doctoral students. We want to assumptions, data and discussions. And you want them without hiding behind the cartoons!
