The SISMED - Italian Society of Historians medievalists, is a private association, formed May 12, 2006, bringing together professional scholars of history and civilization of the Middle Ages, largely but not exclusively, university teachers and researchers . Its statutory objective is to promote the study and knowledge of the Middle Ages both educational institutions and in social communication. This aim is based on the knowledge that in the Middle Ages have been lived experiences, political, religious, artistic, which are essential aspects of Italian and European cultural heritage, knowledge of which must therefore be safeguarded and disseminated.

SISMED working members of the recovery and study of the historical-documents kept in archives, libraries and collections, antiques, and are committed to the preservation and development of the enormous legacy of the medieval period in territory and in the Italian countryside. Support the study of the Middle Ages in schools and universities and organize lectures, debates and other cultural events designed to communicate to non-specialist audiences a correct image and updated the medieval age. Thanks to the expertise of the members SISMED can offer a professional consultancy service for any questions about the Middle Ages, and can provide qualified assistance to cultural organizations for the promotion of tourism and planning. The SISMED joins with similar associations of scholars of medieval life in various European countries and beyond, with which it has ongoing relationships of information and collaboration.
