The successful events often arise at random. This was the case with Medieval Festival Malmantile . All originated in the summer of 1993 for the work of a group of boys and girls Malmantile, volunteers from the local branch of Mercy, all aged between 16 and 24 years. These young people, inspired by the ancient walls that sit on top of Malmantile, they decided to organize an event capable of recreating the typical atmosphere of the medieval village. The proceeds of this event was interamente devoluto alla sezione di Misericordia di Malmantile, che li avrebbe impiegati per la costruzione di una nuova sede.
L’impresa si presentava difficile, poiché a Malmantile non vi era alcuna struttura capace di garantire supporto organizzativo e finanziario all’idea. Ma i ragazzi della Misericordia non si arresero, forti del sostegno pressoché unanime che la gente del paese manifestò per l’iniziativa.
Per vari mesi i giovani lavorarono alacremente per costruire le strutture necessarie. A fronte dello sforzo prodotto da questi ragazzi, tutto il paese si mobilitò offrendo collaborazione di ogni genere. Il centro nasce probabilmente come forte militare della Repubblica fiorentina per controllare la strada che portava a Pisa. La cinta muraria, risale infatti al 1424 e pare che lo stesso Filippo Brunelleschi (1337- 1446) abbia supervisionato i lavori per la sua realizzazione. Di questa oggi è conservata tutta la parte di pietrame sfuso mentre rimane visibile solo una piccola parte delle mura difensive a sporgere. Le mura sono completate da torri quadrate poste ai quattro angoli, più due torri rompi-tratta senza lato interno poste al centro dei lati maggiori.
