It is a 'serial site, "made up of all goods and artistic monuments" unique and exceptional "relative to the heyday of culture and art of the Lombards, held in 7 locations, from North to Central and Southern Italy. For its outstanding value, in 2008 the "Site serial" for "Italy Langobardorum" was officially proposed by the Italian Government for inscription on UNESCO's World Heritage list. It is the job ever more detailed and complex proposal to UNESCO.
Nella sua originalissima costruzione a “rete-di-reti” – determinata dalla adozione di uno specifico Piano di Gestione – il Sito seriale “Italia Langobardorum” da un lato rappresenta una inedita proposta turistico-culturale e, dall’altro lato, assume la veste di strumento complesso di sviluppo non soltanto per i Territori direttamente coinvolti nella candidatura (quelli in cui esiste il Patrimonio artistico-monumentali di assoluta valenza) ma per tutti i luoghi di matrice storica longobarda.
La candidatura prevede inoltre la costruzione di "Itinerari longobardi" lungo percorsi regionali (i Territori dei Ducati di riferimento dei Luoghi included in the application UNESCO), national (referred to other centers of significant matrix Lombard) and European (director of "geo-cultural corridor").
